Press Release:Artwork by Haakon Neubert rises into the sky together with the “Weitblick” Project

by Marco Seltenreich

Viennese residents who feel inspired to enjoy some art spontaneously over the coming months will only need to look toward the Prater. The high-rise project “Weitblick” by STRABAG Real Estate, which is set to shape the skyline of the urban development area in Vienna’s 2nd district, features a unique highlight: on the wind shield of what will become a new Vienna landmark, the artwork “ZU MAUERN” by German artist Haakon Neubert is now rising into the sky and, within a few months, will be visible 120 meters above the city. This unusual “art in architecture” project was made possible through a collaboration with STRABAG ART.
The artist himself was also present during the initial installation of the nearly 13-meter-high artwork. Haakon Neubert, winner of the main prize of the 2025 STRABAG ART Award, expressed his fascination with the unusual presentation of his work: “It is very interesting to see how a painting can change through the context in which it is displayed. The work originated from the idea of what one of my paintings would look like if it refused to be seen. The solution was obvious: it walls itself up and conceals what it is actually about. Now, however, the interpretation changes: it is no longer about hiding something, but about growing upwards. At least for a while. I find that exciting and intriguing.”

STRABAG Real Estate is also delighted with the extraordinary eye-catching installation. “We are proud to emphasize the uniqueness of Weitblick in an artistic way,” says project manager Alexandra Mair-Einspieler. “We would like to thank STRABAG ART and Haakon Neubert for this exciting opportunity and hope that, with this project, we can not only enrich the city with a new landmark, but also offer inspiring perspectives and views even before its completion.” The artwork will remain prominently displayed until 2027. At Meiereistraße 12, a development spanning approximately 55,000 square meters is taking shape, including the Dorint Hotel Weitblick Wien with 298 rooms, modern office spaces, co-working areas, flexible conference facilities, parking spaces for long-term and short-term users equipped with electric charging stations, as well as exclusive dining concepts featuring a rooftop bar with panoramic views over Vienna.
